Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino compiled Z Gundam TV series with added footage

Bandai Entertainment has announced on its Twitter feed on Wednesday that it has set a June 2010 release date for the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation movie trilogy. Bandai originally announced its North American license for the films in 2006.
Similar to what the first Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy did for the first Gundam television series, the Zeta Gundam movies compile the Zeta Gundam television series with the majority of the original cast reprising their roles. The movies, which creator Yoshiyuki Tomino assembled for Zeta Gundam's 20th anniversary celebration, also feature digital remastering and some additional new footage.

Space Colony no Kanōsei wa?~" (Introduction to Gundam Astronomy: Where's Side 7? Jun Fukue — an astronomy professor, author, and science-fiction anime enthusiast — will also speak at the event. The combined seminar and skygazing gathering will be held at the Tokyo City View Sky Deck in the Roppongi Hills 270 meters above sea level.

The speakers will discuss space exploration and mankind's knowledge of the universe, using the story world of the Gundam science-fiction anime to illustrate points. For example, they will highlight the concepts, structure, and feasibility of cylindrical space colonies, which are known collectively as Sides 1 through 7 in Gundam.

A manga called BB Senshi Sangokuden ~Senshin Kettō-hen~ has been running in Kadokawa Shoten's Kerokero Ace magazine. Hobby Net lists 14 new SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors model kits which will be released between February and May.

900,000 predicted to visit 59-foot-tall robot in central Japan in 300 days

4Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The central Japanese city of Shizuoka calculates that the 1/1-scale, 18-meter-tall statue of the Gundam robot will bring 40 billion yen (US$440 million) into the local economy.

The 59-foot-tall statue will be erected in front of Japan Railway's Higashi-Shizuoka Station in Shizuoka's Aoki ward by July. As part of the 30th anniversary of the Gundam anime franchise, the statue stood on the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo Bay last summer and attracted 4.15 million visitors. The planners had only predicted 1.5 million visitors before the statue was built.

The duration of the statue's stay in Shizuoka is still to be determined, but the city estimates that the statue can attract 900,000 visitors and 40 billion yen over the course of 300 days. According to the city, 9,600 jobs will be created for security, maintenance, and other operations at the site. More details about the exhibit's duration and related events will be announced at the end of March.

After the statue's initial stay in Shizuoka, there are plans to move it to another prefecture. However, it is slated to be eventually stationed near Shizuoka's Bandai Hobby Center, the production factory for Bandai's Gundam plastic model kits.

Sensual Phrase's Mayu Shinjo depicts 5 boys in 1st Gundam's One Year War

The February issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine is announcing on Saturday that Mayu Shinjo is launching her Kidō Senshi Gundam Zeon Kōkoku Yōnen Gakkō (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Principality of Zeon Children's Academy) in the March issue in January.

The manga is set in the seceding space colonies during the year Universal Century 0079 — the timeframe of the One Year War from the first Gundam space anime series. The story follows five boys who all share a sense of "camaraderie, duty, … jealousy, and war."

Shinjo, the manga creator of Sensual Phrase (Kaikan Phrase) and Love Celeb, had revealed in an August blog entry that she will launch a new series in Monthly Gundam Ace magazine in November. However, the manga has since been delayed until January. She already launched a new romance manga called Heart no Diamond in Shueisha's Ribon magazine in July. Shinjo has been writing and illustrating her own columns for Monthly Gundam Ace and Seed Club Mobile, the mobile version of the official Mobile Suit Gundam Seed club.

After a much-publicized exit from Shogakukan's Shoujo Comic magazine in 2007, Shinjo has been drawing her Ai-Ore! Danshikō no Hime to Joshikō no Ōji manga in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Asuka magazine. Viz Media published Sensual Phrase in North America.
