Hayato Ichihara reprises teen lock-picker role in February 27 film

A 91-second trailer for the live-action Saru Lock the Movie has been posted on the film's official website and on Yahoo! Japan's streaming service. (In the linked official website, select the "予告編" button from the lefthand menu.)

Both the film and the earlier live-action television drama series are based on Naoki Serizawa's Saru Lock action comedy manga. Hayato Ichihara (Rookies, Onmyoji II, Wild Life) plays Yatarō "Saru" Sarumaru, an ordinary high school boy who daydreams about idols but otherwise has no luck with girls. However, this silver-haired son of a locksmith also happens to be a lock-picking genius, and there is no lock that "Saru" (literally, "monkey") cannot open.

The original manga has been running in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine since 2004, and the first 21 compiled book volumes have sold 4 million copies. The film will open in Japan on February 27. The television drama's main cast of Sousuke Takaoka (Rookies, Battle Royale, Crows Zero) as Saru's childhood friend and police officer Yamada, Sei Ashina, Gota Watabe, and others are reprising their roles in the film. Joining the cast for the film are Manami Higa as a deceitful woman who hires Saru, Manami Konishi as a high-ranking police officer and Tokyo University graduate, Ken Mitsuishi as a gang leader, and Masahiko Nishimura and Jun Kunimura as members of the National Police Agency.
