Anime studio says FTP site was hacked by 3rd party; apologizes to all involved

The anime studio WHITE FOX posted a notice on Thursday on its website regarding the leak of production materials from the Katanagatari anime series. According to studio head Gaku Iwasa, the studio's FTP (file transfer protocol) server was hacked by a third party, and the production materials were leaked early on Monday morning — three weeks before the anime's January 25 premiere.

The studio apologized to the companies involved in the production and the potential viewers for the trouble caused by the incident. The studio also apologized for the difficulty it is having on responding individually to the many mail messages it received regarding the incident through its home page. The server's administrator is cooperating with the High-Tech Crime Joint Task Center of the Metropolitan Police Department on investigating the matter.
