Anime Expo has announced that fan-favorite anime director Shinichi Watanabe will appear at the July 1-4 event in Los Angeles. Watanabe, or "Nabeshin," is best known for directing Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemy, The Wallflower, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Nerima Daikon Brothers, and other anime series. He also voiced an exaggerated version of himself in these same anime works, as well as other titles in which he made contributions such as Hayate the Combat Butler. Like the real Nabeshin, the fictional Nabeshin sports a huge afro and his trademark red blazer.
