Shinya Yamada reveals plans after TV taping with Fafner author Tow Ubukata

Shinya Yamada, a certified public accountant and an anime industry analyst, reported on his Anime NewType Channel blog on Sunday that a theatrical film of the Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor anime is in production. Yamada (pictured at left in photo) talked with Fafner author Tow Ubukata (pictured at right) during a recording for this Friday's Bestseller Book TV, a weekly satellite/cable program that Yamada hosts for showcasing books.

The official website for the 2004 Fafner television anime series had already confirmed earlier this month that a new anime has been green-lit for the previously announced Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth follow-up project. Fafner character designer Hisashi Hirai is returning to work on the new anime along with the animators at Xebec. Ubukata is credited with the scriptwriting. The official website for the Starchild musical group Angela had announced last month that the group will perform the theme song for this project.

Geneon released the original 2004 Fafner anime series in North America in 2005. Digital Manga Publishing released the novel version of Fafner in 2008.

Besides Fafner, Ubukata created the stories behind Le Chevalier D'Eon, Heroic Age, and Pilgrim Jäger. Another Ubukata work, the Mardock Scramble science fiction novel series, is also being animated for theaters after an earlier video incarnation by the Gonzo anime studio was cancelled in 2006. Character designer Range Murata was involved in the earlier Gonzo version, but he said last Friday that neither he nor Gonzo are involved in the new Mardock Scramble theatrical anime project.
