Retailer lists "readjusted" May 26 release of Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance

The Japanese online retailer Geo on the Rakuten website is listing the May 26 DVD release of the Evangelion: 2.22 You Can Not Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha) film. This second film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's four-part remake of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion science fiction anime series was released in theaters last June under the title Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. According to the retailer, the "2.22" version number represents the release's digital mastering with "readjustments." Khara has yet to make an official announcement regarding the film's DVD release.

The second film continued the story of a group of 14-year-olds entrusted with giant biomechanical units to protect Earth from mysterious Angels. While the first film hewed closely to the original television series, the second film went farther in a different direction.

After opening in Japan, the film played in festivals in Spain, Canada, the United States, and France. In an interview in an issue of Rockin'On's Cut magazine in December, co-director Kazuya Tsurumaki already indicated that he is working on retakes for the spring DVD release of the film.

Funimation released the first film in the remake, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Jo), in North America last year in theaters and on home video. Like the second film, the first film had multiple retakes in its DVD releases, culminating with the latest "Evangelion 1.11" edition.

Update: More background information added.
